Part - time post as assistant librarian
As a bilingual grammar school, the Schiller-Gymnasium in Berlin Charlottenburg is offering a post supporting the librarian of the school for 9-10 hours a week.
The job entails working 3 mornings a week and occasional activities in the afternoon. Precise times can be negotiated. You need to have a valid work permit and a health insurance for Germany. If you start to work, you will be required to present a Police Certificate as part of a prerequisite working with children in a School.
Start date: September 2017
Requirements: You should speak English as a native language. You should be outgoing and enjoy encouraging young people to engage with books and take part in competitions, and advise them about life as a student in the country you are from. Speaking German is helpful but not essential. Young adults are welcome.
You will be expected to
-Support English teachers by encouraging English lessons to be held in the library, e.g. choosing or discussing different books to be read in class
-Offer reading competitions in English
-Run a Book Club
-Help the pupils to collect and evaluate information for different projects e.g. the presentation exams for 10th grade or the Abitur
-Advice pupils about studying abroad.
You will also be expected to support the daily running of the library e.g. setting up a database, checking books in and out, choosing and cataloging books.
