The German Abitur consists of a credit system comprising several courses leading up to a final examination in which five subjects (Prüfungsfächer) are examined in detail.
All subjects offered up to year 10 in the SESB are offered at pass (Grundkurs) or honours (Leistungskurs) level in the respective language. Pass level courses can also be taken in IT, Latin and Italian as well as a supplemental course in German literature.
In the SESB Abitur two or three of the five exam subjects (Prüfungsfächer) must be examined through the medium of English.
